Desperate to escape the sorrowful atmosphere, Sharadindu decides to retreat to his ancestral home, where his elder sister-in-law, Manikuntala Devi, guards the family's wealth like a vigilant Yaksha. Through the house attendant, Kali Kaka, we learn that Manikuntala Devi's husband vanished mysteriously just a week after their wedding. Rumors about his existence swirl among the villagers, casting doubt and suspicion.
